The association is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Football Association. In order to join the association, clubs need to apply and are then voted in by current member clubs. The league has clubs from all over the former Strathclyde Region, from Airdrie in the east to Gourock in the west, from Cumbernauld to Castlemilk from north to south, and all points in between The league changed its name to its current 1n from the Strathclyde Civil Service league.
An affiliate of the Scottish Football Associationthe SAFA has in turn 50 regional associations affiliated to it and some 67 different league competitions organised by these associations. There is estimated to be over 35, amateur footballers in Scotland, and all of their competitions are co-ordinated at some level by the Scottish Amateur Football Association. The SAFA was formed in with the purpose of legislating for and fostering the amateur level of football in Scotland.
It was formally founded in when Scottish Football League club Queen's Park decided that their fourth team needed regular competition. Queen's Park were successful in winning the first league title, but Edinburgh Civil Service won the league the following year, so Queen's Park decided to enter their third team for the third season of the competition, indicating a high standard of football was played at this level from an early stage. Despite being called the Scottish Amateur Football League, the league has never included clubs from across the country.
A new season has kicked off but concerns are growing about the health of the recreational game played by Scottish men every weekend. Occasional ribbons on a piece of end-of-season silverware were inevitably cast adrift on the dressing-room floor amid the tangle of electrical duct tape. The showers dripping lukewarm water after a match mattered little, so long as the beer in the boozer around the corner flowed even colder.

Personally I think the introduction of being able to use five substitutes in amateur football has been a great addition to the game. I have made great use of the rule and I regularly use all of my subs as I am a great believer that fitness has a huge say on who wins and loses an amateur game. There is only one addition I would like to the rule and that is that match day squads be extended to allow 18 players.
